Alan has dedicated his career to the constructions industry during which he has worked for various contractors, 23 years in the UK and 13 years in the Middle East.
Alan is a very experienced and highly motivated professional who commenced his career as a Junior QS in 1986 after which he has steadily gained experience working for various contractors which has allowed him to progress and diversify his career. He has been appointed to the following positions during the course of the last 20 years; Commercial Manager (2002 –Scotland), Deputy Consortium Director (2012 -Qatar), Major Project Director (2014 – Abu Dhabi), Senior Commercial Manager (2017- Dubai) and Head of Commercial, Contracts and Procurement Departments (2019 – Abu Dhabi), all of which demonstrate Alan’s wide ranging experience of working for Contractors, which has provided him with the knowledge and ability to effectively manage Projects for the benefit of the Clients of KonAlCo Project Management Services LLC.
Alan’s experience and understand of how to manage the many various Forms of Contracts he has worked with throughout his career in both the UK and across the GCC, has encouraged him to acquire additional qualifications and prestigious memberships of respected Institutions which have allowed him to act as an Expert Determiner, Quantum Expert Witness, Adjudicator, RICS Accredited Mediator and Arbitrator (2016 – to date UAE). This additional knowledge and experience allow him to advise Clients accordingly when disputes arise on their Projects, when representing KonAlCo Project Management Services LLC.

Alan is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building, a Member of the Adjudication Society and has acquired 36 years of construction industry experience
working in the UK and across the GCC. Alan has successfully worked for many reputable contractors throughout his career and has spent the last 13 years working in the Middle East. Alan is highly experienced in the commercial, contract and project management of major construction projects for Contractors for whom he has been appointed Project Director, Commercial Director, Head of Dept and
other Senior Management roles all of which required effective management to resolve technical, operational, project control and reporting, contractual and commercial issues on large scale infrastructure, building and water projects across the UK and the GCC in order to secure his Employer’s contractual entitlements.
Alan has been living and working in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman for the last 13 + years, and has developed a solid reputation by building relationships with Contractors, Clients, Consultants and
Law Firms as a result of successfully delivering a diverse range of projects. Alan has experience of taking projects from tender stage through to completion which have been procured on either a Design
and Build, Public Private Partnership or Traditional Contracting build to print basis (Remeasured or Lump Sum). Alan has successfully led Contractor’s Project & Commercial Teams on major building and
infrastructure projects in the UK, UAE, Qatar and Bahrain.Alan strongly believes that from the commencement of the Project, that the Terms and Conditions contained within the agreed Contract are correctly administered without deviation as this will substantially reduce the risk of disputes arising during the course of the Project and thus reduce the requirement for third party involvement to review and provide a recommendation / award to resolve any disputes which arise between
the parties. Alan’s progression and the wide-ranging experience he has acquired throughout his career can be demonstrated by reviewing the roles for which he has previously been appointed, and successfully executed, which include the Senior Management roles of Project Director, Deputy Consortium Director, Head of Dept.
and several other Senior Commercial and Contract Management roles whilst working for various contractors in the UK and Middle East during the latter half of his career. Alan has always strived to improve the contract and commercial function wherever he has worked. He has achieved this by implementing professional best practice within the agreed contractual framework, to reduce the likelihood of needing to enlist the help of third parties to resolve issues which crystalise into formal
disputes. Alan regularly attends commercial seminars and other construction related events to keep up to date with recent developments relating to his profession and to raise his profile within the construction industry.

Alan has worked for large international contractors and smaller local construction companies from which he has acquired the wide breadth of experience and technical knowledge he now possesses relating to the various construction techniques and the processes and procedures utilized by different construction companies in their respective sectors
Extensive experience in commercial management and contract administration across the UK and Middle East construction industries
Alan has 28 years’ experience in the preparation, submission and negotiation of claim documentation, whereby he has successfully demonstrated the Contractor’s entitlement to recover time, financial losses and expense on the Projects which has resulted in amicable settlements being achieved on most of the Projects where he has had an involvement
Successful completion of 2No RICS Diplomas in Arbitration (English & Welsh Law) and International Arbitration (Middle East) which gave him the correct credentials required to join the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators as a Fellow in Feb Alan is also an accredited Civil Commercial Mediator, Expert Witness and Expert Determiner and has been accepted as a Practising Associate of the Academy of Experts after completing their courses and has been accepted onto their Register of
